Experience the "Cowboy Thang" in Pleasanton, Texas
The 39th Annual Cowboy Homecoming will be held
August 19-21, 2004
.

Held in Pleasanton, Tx, and known as the "Birthplace of the Cowboy" this year's event is
promising to be one of the best.

The
Heart of America Shows is a large carnival returning this year with rides and
attractions that will appeal to kids of all ages beginning on Thursday at the River Park.
Entertainment NeXt presented by Wheels of Freestyle for a powerful, professional,
extreme sports production.  Using world-class athletes performing BMX Bike AIRE Show
Flat land Light, Box Jump 2 riders and 1 in line skater.  

The Pleasanton Young Farmers will sponsor team roping on Thursday evening as well
as
rodeos set for Friday and Saturday nights. This year¹s event is co-sanctioned with
the Cowboy  Professional Cowboy Association and the United Professional Rodeo
Association. The stock contractor is Wall¹s Rodeo Co. and promises to be a bigger and
better rodeo! Rodeos begin at 8 p.m. The Queen¹s Coronation will be held prior to the
rodeo at 7 p.m.  Friday night along with the induction to the
South Texas Hall of Fame
and naming Cowboy of the Year. These events will be held at the Atascosa County
Showbarn arena on Hwy. 97 West  in Pleasanton. A new event added is a Showbarn
dance with
Texas Avenue Band. Dance will be from 8 p.m. until midnight. Admission
will be $6.00.

A
Cowboy Breakfast, sponsored by State Bank will start Friday's festivities early. The
campfire breakfast complete with tortillas, eggs, sausage, bacon, beans, hot sauce and,
 of course, fire brewed coffee will be served from 6:00 a.m. until 8:00 a.m. Entertainment
will be provided by Johnny Garza.
The Bluebonnet Trail Riders and Tri-County Trail
Riders
will be riding into the cowboy Breakfast held in the Atascosa River Park.

For dancing entertainment we have the popular band
Rhythm of The Road on Friday,
August 20 from 8:30 p.m. until 12:30 a.m. Tickets are just $8.00.  This year a night time
volleyball tournament is scheduled to begin at 8:00 p.m. to lead into the early morning,
intermediate and recreational teams will participate.

Saturday night, dance to the tunes of Pleasanton's own
Rodney Hayden who will have
just finished tour dates in Europe.  Texas Avenue Band will open for Rodney. All dances
are in the large pavilion in the Atascosa River Park. Tickets for Saturday¹s dance are
$10.00.
Saturday's events begin in the river park with the
Cowboy Gallop, a 5K run and the
Cowboy Fun Walk a 2 mile stroll in the park. There will also be Roundball Round-up
(3-on-3 basketball), . Of course, no celebration would be complete without a parade
which will begin at 10:00 a.m. and will flow through the streets of downtown Pleasanton.
This year¹s
grand marshal is Rodney Hayden, Saturday's night's entertainment.

Afternoon events will include the return of the popular
All Pro Bull Riding Sanctioned
event. Spectators can experience the excitement of watching a top notch bull riding
exhibition, brought to you by well known stock contractor Sonny Arocha with the
Cibolo
Creek Rodeo Co
., beginning at  3:00 p.m. there will be the top 50 bulls to the top 50 bull
riders arriving from Texas and beyond they are excited to return to the
2nd Annual
Bullriding Challenge in the Park
including mutton bustin for the kids.  The bull fighters
are experienced as well and do a great job in the arena as well as a professional rodeo
announcer who keeps things moving fast and furious for a afternoon of thrills and
excitment.  Calling all trail riders interested in participating in a
trail ride leaving
Coughran Hall
at 8:00 a.m. to Pleasanton River park arriving at 2:30 contact Trail Boss

If you like music the river park is the place to be we will have a afternoon of great music
beginning at 12:00 noon
Jam Fest  with 3 Rock bands then 3 Tejano bands leading into
a evening of
Tejano Music by Bravado Band this will be set up on the North side of the
Park for a great mix of live entertainment during the day.  Have you ever seen
DJ's
dueling
it out competing for the best DJ Award?  Who will be the last DJ standing?  
Come on out to judge this event.

Other events include
Lil'Darlin' contest, arts and crafts, Brush Country Art Club art show
(held at the Pleasanton Fire Dept. station),
Hot Rod Open Car Show, Stickhorse Rodeo,
karoke contest plus
El Grito and Cow Calling contest and the unforgetable jalapeno
eating contest
, dunking booth and dance/cheer exhibits by the Pleasanton High School
Pacesetters students of Texas Cheer Academy an Mariachi L a mariachi group of
brothers performing along with their father. The Rotary Club will sponsor
Cow Patty
Bingo
and the Lions Club will have the Chicken Roping once again.
Food more of your fancy? Compete in the
Chili or Barbecue Cook-off, or enter your
salsa for a spicy competition.
The Cowboy Gathering area will feature story telling, cowboy poetry, Kevin Fitzpatrick
trick roping,  
South Texas Gunfighters and a chuckwagon demonstration.
There will be plenty of food and refreshments provided by various civic groups and
cooling stations to help beat the heat.
The Cool Zone will be under the large Pavilion we
will lower the thermostat in the Cool Zone for your comfort at the hottest festival in Texas.
 We invite your to attend Cowboy Homecoming a festival where you can learn a mixture
of cultures while you experience the life on the range to great concerts.
Come out and enjoy a fun-filled weekend and do that
cowboy thang.
