Experience the "Cowboy Thang" in Pleasanton, Texas
The 42nd Annual Cowboy Homecoming will be held August 17-18, 2007.
Held in Pleasanton, Tx, and known as the "Birthplace of the Cowboy" this year's commemorates our 42nd event is promising to be one of the best.
The Pleasanton Young Farmers rodeo on Friday and Saturday set to start the fun begins at 8 p.m. The Queen¹s Coronation will be held prior to the rodeo at 7 p.m. Friday night along with the induction to the South Texas Hall of Fame and naming Cowboy of the Year. These events will be held at the Atascosa County Showbarn arena on Hwy. 97 West in Pleasanton.
A Cowboy Breakfast, sponsored by Prosperity Bank will start Friday's festivities early. The authentic campfire breakfast complete with tortillas, eggs, sausage, bacon, beans, hot sauce and, of course, fire brewed coffee will be served from 6:30 a.m. until 8:00 a.m. Entertainment will be provided by DJ.

For dancing entertainment we have the TEXAS MUSIC FESTIVAL WEEKEND will begin at 7:30 p.m. "the fan's artist" Kevin Fowler, Charlie Robison and our local Scott Wiggins Band. Tickets are just $20.00 a night if you plan on attending both nights we are offering a weekend armband. This year once again we will have a night time volleyball tournament scheduled to begin at 8:00 p.m. until complete the early morning, intermediate and recreational teams will participate.
Saturday night, will feature more great Texas Music Roger Creager, Eli Young Band, Wade Bowen, Bruce Hudson and the Most Wanted Band, August 18 from 6:30 p.m. until 1:00 a.m. under the large pavilion in the Atascosa River Park. Tickets for Saturday¹s dance are $20.00 with $30.00 for the weekend.
Saturday's events begin in the river park with the Cowboy Gallop, a 5K run and the Cowboy Fun Walk a 2 mile stroll starts in the park. There will also be Roundball Round-up (3-on-3 basketball), Of course, no celebration would be complete without a parade which will begin at 10:00 a.m. flow through the streets of downtown Pleasanton. This year¹s grand marshal will be the greatest mascot of any NBA team the Spurs Coyote Go Spurs Go!
New for 2007 is the dedication of the Battle of the Medina ceremony to begin at 5:30 p.m on Friday the 17th. This battle on Texas soil between the Republican Forces and Spanish Army fight in a fight for independence of Spain took place north of Pleasanton between the Medina and Atascosa River on August 18, 1813. Afternoon events will include the return of the popular Bull Riding event. Spectators can experience the excitement of watching a top notch bull riding exhibition, brought to you by well known stock contractor Sonny Arocha with the Cibolo Creek Rodeo Co. begining at 5:00 p.m. top 50 bulls to the top 50 bull riders arriving from Texas and beyond they are excited to return to the boys are back in town Annual Bullriding Challenge in the Park. The bull fighters are experienced as well and do a great job in the arena keeping bullriders safe, a professional rodeo announcer who keeps things moving fast and furious for a afternoon of thrills and excitement.
If you like music the river park is the place to be we will have a afternoon of great music Time to be announced with 2 great bands to keep the festival goers entertained.
Other events include Lil'Darlin' contest, arts and crafts, Hot Rod Open Car Show,Motorcycle Show, karoke contest plus El Grito and Cow Calling contest and the unforgetable jalapeno eating contest, dunking booth and dance/cheer exhibits by the Pleasanton High School Pacesetters students of Texas Cheer Academy and Lonestar Cheer Academy. The Chamber of Commerce Cow Patty Bingo is lots of fun and the Chicken Roping is back once again.
Food for your fancy? Compete in the Chili or Barbecue Cook-off or enter your salsa for a spicy competition we will have a margarita pour off also.
The Wild West stage area will feature a change some great entertainment.
There will be plenty of food and refreshments provided by various civic groups and cooling stations to help beat the heat. Two cool zones on by the Bull Ride also hosting the Texas Holdem Tournament, the second Cool Zone will be under the large Pavilion we will lower the thermostat in the Cool Zone for your comfort at the hottest festival in Texas. We invite your to attend Cowboy Homecoming a festival where you can learn a mixture of cultures while you experience the life on the range to great concerts.
